I´m so excited as the first ever UFC event in Germany (and continental Europe as well) will start in less than 17 hours... and I will see it live in the arena!!!

I´m just upset about German media again recently ...

The reports about the event in newspapers and tv is a bit like it were modern gladiator fight where lifes are on the line...

I don´t get it how you can give a sport a kinda stamp that it is brutal...

Actually the text in the media aren´t based on many facts... but prejudices like f. e. that the fighters dont´have a lot of protection, that teenagers could imitate it etc...

I might be wrong but how much protection do boxers wear in the ring? Something between zero and none...

And it´s not that kids don´t copy things like TMHT or boxing etc... *ironic*

I don´t like it that words used in connection with "UFC" are "brutality", "no rules", "bloody", "merciless" and so on...

A few minutes ago I saw a report about the event on tv... and it made me upset... they also showed material from underground free fights and actually refered to a case of death... Well, a few years ago an American fighter died in Russia...

I don´t get the connection... I mean first of all it was not the UFC that held the event in Russia but a Russian organisation and they wanted to give the audience some American blood...

Second, and that´s what is more strange, is that the same station that aired the report has a contract to broadcast the boxing bouts of the Klitschko Brothers... so the broadcasting station has a big interest to defame UFC to avoid losing some spectators to it... Same boxing lobby tried in the USA and on the British Isles... and both times UFC came out as the winner...

I don´t have any statistics over here but if I´m right more than one boxer has been killed inside the ring since the beginning of modern boxing in the 1900s, right?

I´m pretty sure the list of boxers killed by injuries recived during boxing bouts goes into the hundreds... just earlier this year a boxer died in Asia I read...

But hell yeah, UFC is brutal and dangerous... *irony* ;-)

I know some people might not like UFC at all but it is a difference between not liking something and defamition...

So if a guy is boxing with a broken jaw and the blood is rushing out of the wounds the German media call the guy a hero... it happened a time ago when "King" Arthur Abraham retained his title despite his jaw was totally smashed during the bout...

But if UFC helds a fight night in Germany it is called brutal and the people watching it are called some dudes that just want to satisfy their inferior instincts and want to see people getting severely hurt...

I mean that´s bullshit... I want to see clean and fair fights later today... nothing more and nothing less... I don´t want anyone to get seriously hurt...

I have to say all those so-called experts are really making me sick... Just lbecause a psychiatrist has a professor job and two PhDs doesn´t mean he knows about UFC... and this guys are interviewed by the media to give a statement about UFC... and say it can be compared to brutal computer games...

Well, after a teenage idiot run amok over here German authorities wanted to forbid paintball because (as they said it) "can learn how to shot people by playing it"... The plans to forbit paintball, gotcha etc were actually cancelled after large protests... The joke in the matter is that we have military service duties over here for (theoratically) every man with a German passport... So wouldn´t it be better to forbit actions where people learn how to shoot with real weapons and real ammo instead of forbiding shooting with colour cartridges? ;-)

As I said before:
I don´t mind if anyone doesn´t like MMA or UFC or whatever... But PLEASE: be objective about the matter!

I don´t say that you can´t be seriously injured during a MMA-bout... but please name a sport without risks...

American Football?... About 5 casulties each year in America...
Racing?... Well, you should ask Greg Moore about it...
Cycling?... Ah, that terrible accident during Tour de France decades ago...
Hoirse-Riding?... Are you kidding me?
Basketball? Yeah... ah no... that player that was left partly paralyzed after he fell down on the hard canvas...

I´m still waiting to get the name of a sport without risks...

Let´s be serious:
There is no sport without a (minor) risk to get severely injured... and everyone doing sports knows that... ask a race car driver, ask a hockey player... etc... they all can tell you that they know about the risks... and so do UFC fighters...

We aren´t talking about people that have been casted during a bar room fight... we are talking about PROFESSIONAL sportsmen (and sportswomen) that practice hours each day, that have done somekind of MMA-related sports since their young days...

So what´s the matter about negative reports?

Maybe it´s just that Germans are ignorant about new things that come from outside Germany...

We have a saying over here:
"What a farmer doesn´t know he doesn´t eat"... and I think it fits about the UFC matter...

I hope there will be serious reports about the UFC event in the Sunday newspapers but I doubt it...

Why don´t all the critics come over to see the event today? They should just sit ringside resp. octagonside and watch it...

Maybe they will still not like UFC afterwards... but at least they would have got an objective view on the matter instead of making some statements without knowing facts resp. making statements resulting out of false facts...

I think a few of you want to have a look on the card for UFC, right?

Ok, here it is:

MAIN EVENT:
- Rich "Ace" Franklin (USA) vs. Wanderlei "Axe Murderer" Silva (BRA)

MAINCARD:
- Cain Velasquez (USA) vs. Cheick Kongo (FRA)
- Mike "Quick" Swick (USA) vs. "Killa B" Ben Saunders (USA)
- "The Irish Hand Grenade" Marcus Davis (USA) vs. Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy (GBR)
- Mostapha Al Turk (GBR) vs. Mirco "CroCop" Filipovic (CRO)
- Spencer "The King" Fisher (USA) vs. Caol Uno (JPN)

UNDERCARD
- Terry Etim (USA) vs. Justin Buchholz (USA)
- Dennis Siver (GER) vs. Dale Hartt (USA)
- "Relentless" Paul Taylor (GBR) vs. Peter Sobotta (GER)
- Paul "Tellys" Kelly (GBR) vs "The Crazy Cuban" Rolando Delgado (USA)
- Denis "The Menace" Stojnic (BOS) vs. Stefan "Skyscraper" Struve (NED)
- John "The Hitman" Hathaway (GBR) vs. Rick Story (???)

I think the main event will be over pretty fast as Franklin will knock Silva out in the 1st...

Velasquez vs. Kongo will be also an interesting fight. Both have quite a victory streak to offer (Velasquez is even still unbeaten!), so the winner of the fight could be in the focus of a fight against the champion of the heavyweight divison (who will be found at UFC 100 when champion Brock Lesnar will fight Frank Mir) soon...

But the most exciting fight for me is Davis vs. Hardy... MMA-veteran and former boxer Davis is an Irish-American and he usually enters the arena with kilt and Irish flag to honour his roots. Young Englishman Hardy made fun out of that and called Davis a "Plastic Paddy" and such and that Davis wouldn´t be Irish at all. Hardy called himself more Irish than Davis ever could be... so you see there is a lot of animosity between this two...

As I have a heart for Ireland I think it is no secret which fighter I want to win the grudge match, right?

The next interesting fight will be the comeback of MMA-legend "CroCop"... whose first UFC-run was quite desaster. But after his knee surgery all UFC-experts predict a victory for the former anti-terror-unit-member from Croatia.

Also the rest of the card is quite exciting, especially the fights of the two German fighters on the undercard.

So I think that i will have some fun later on by watching what some "experts" and "journalists" call "modern gladiator fights"... LOL

Oh, I guess you are still searching for a sport without the risk of injuries... I got one:

CHESS!

Ahem, ok, you can twist your fingers if you move your chessman too fast... DAMN IT! LOL

Best wishes,

Chris

It was great AJ! I had some fun!

All fights but one (Fisher/Uno) were interesting... Well one decision (Hardy´s win over davis) was a scandal in my eyes as in my point of view my fav Davis won two of the three rounds... But Hardy one by split desicison (2 of 3 judges had Hardy in front...)... yuck... :-(

Here are the results:

1) John "The Hitman" Hathaway (England) def. Rick "The Horror" Story (USA) by Unanimous Decision

2) Stefan "Skyscraper" Struve (NED) def. Denis "The Menace" Stojnic (NED) by Submission (Choke) at 2:37 in the 2nd round by rear naked

3) Paul "Tellys" Kelly (GBR) def. "The Crazy Cuban" Rolando Delgado (USA) by Unanimous Decision

4) "Relentless" Paul Taylor (GBR) def. Peter Sobotta (GER) by Unanimous Decision

5) Dennis Siver (GER) def. Dale Hartt (USA) by Submission (Choke) at 3:23 in the 1st round by rear naked

6) Terry Etim (GBR) def. Justin Buchholz (USA) by Submission (Choke) at 2:38 in the 2nd round by d'arce

7) Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy (England) def. "The Irish Hand Grenade" Marcus Davis (USA) by Split Decision :-(

8) Spencer "The King" Fisher (USA) def. Caol Uno (Japan) by Unanimous Decision

9) Mike "Quick" Swick (USA) def. "Killa B" Ben Saunders (USA) by Technical Knock Out at 3:47 in the 2nd round

10) Mirko "CroCop" Filipovic (CRO) def. Mostapha Al Turk (GBR) by Technical Knock Out at 3:06 in the 1st round

11) Cain Velasquez (USA) def. Cheick Kongo (FRA) by Unanimous Decision

12) Rich "Ace" Franklin (USA) def. Wanderlei "Axe Murderer" Silva (BRA) by Unanimous Decision

Best wishes and hugs,

Chris
